Join us on Friday November 30th for a Gospel Roots Of Rock And Soul Grand Finale Musical Celebration at the Bright Hope Baptist Church.
Under the artistic and musical direction of Dr. Donald Dumpson, minister of music and arts at Arch Street Presbyterian Church, the 8 pm performance will feature gospel, spirituals, and gospel-influenced R&B and blues songs. Performing will be the Gospel Music Preservation Alliance Choir, the Philadelphia Heritage Chorale, The Gospel Blenders, and The Henderson Sisters, with a special appearance by vocalist Sarah Dash of the legendary group Labelle.
A 6:45 pm panel discussion will precede the concert. Moderated by WXPN Program Director Bruce Warren, who is Co-Executive Director of Gospel Roots of Rock and Soul, the discussion will encompass gospel music’s role in the Civil Rights movement, the impact of gospel music on R&B music, the role of choirs in gospel and secular music, and related topics. Panelists will be music business professional and radio host Dyana Williams, musician and music educator Dr. Rollo Dilworth, and gospel music radio host and historian Linwood Heath.
